Position Summary:
This position will have knowledge in Career and College Readiness (CCR) and school counseling, Career and Technical Education (CTE) state standards, assessment, and instruction. Strong skills in facilitating family, students, and staff services which help to promote the Career and Technical Education goals of students. Have experience with and knowledge of skills specific to the Washington State High School and Beyond Plan, Personalized Pathway Requirements, and CTE Standards for grades 7-12 level offering guidance and consistently high expectations for all students.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Washington Educational Staff Associate certificate with School Counselor endorsement required
- Valid Career & Technical Education certificate with Occupational Counselor endorsement preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Experience and/or knowledge of CTE state curriculum frameworks
- Strong written and oral communications skills
- Experience and/or training with cultural, ethnic, and language diversity preferred
- Successful Washington State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation Fingerprint Clearance
- Proof of Immunization (if born 1/1/57 or later)
- I-9 Employment Eligibility in compliance with the Immigrations Reform and Control Act
- Completion of all district-required training within thirty (30) calendar days from hire date

- Knowledge of counseling, instructional, and CTE methods
- Knowledge of individual and group assessment techniques, data gathering, and statistical analysis
- Knowledge of current technology and computerized student data management systems
- Knowledge of and ability to access community agencies
- Skills in communication and strength in developing and maintaining effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, and community agencies
- Previous experience implementing and managing Worksite Learning, High School and Beyond Plans, Personalized Pathways, Scholarships; and Post-Secondary Options including internship development, Job Shadows, and Apprenticeships
Essential Job Functions:
This list of essential job functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary. Depending upon individual assignment, the employee may perform all or a combination of several of the following duties:
- Provide direct CTE counseling services to students in classroom, large/small groups, and individually
- Keep abreast of current trends in the profession and translate appropriate research to practical applications in the areas of counseling, curriculum, instruction, and assessment related to CTE
- Provides consultation that may include resources, training, support, and modeling of effective instructional strategies and methods to special and general education staff, parents, student, and others related to CTE
- Assist building principal and staff in programming and placement of students to complete the Personalized Pathway Requirement and High School and Beyond Plan
- Facilitate involved community effectively with staff and parents to create a partnership of support for student success
- Work to facilitate cooperation between the classroom teachers and parents to increase learning and improve student CCR goals
- Work effectively and cooperatively with parents, teachers, counselors, administrators, support staff and all other stakeholders
- Maintain professional competence through in-service education, coursework, or professional growth activities
- Assist families in obtaining appropriate community services which fall outside of the school or educational setting related to CCR goals
- Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regular work hours
- Professionally interact with students, staff, and public
- Establish and maintain professional contacts with students
- Comply with all district policies and procedures
- Comply with the Code of Professional Conduct
- Perform related duties as assigned
Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is confined to a work area; required to have precise control of fingers and hand movements; experiences constant interruptions and inflexible deadlines; and must be able to stoop, crouch, crawl, bend, kneel, stand for periods of time, and lift in order to assist a student with personal care. The employee is required to deal with distraught and/or angry persons and is exposed to infectious diseases carried by children. The noise level in the work environment is acceptable to this particular environment and can vary depending upon daily activity but will remain within acceptable ranges.
Evaluation:
This position shall be evaluated periodically by the Career & College Readiness Director pursuant to the currently established district procedures and evaluation criteria. The process shall include an evaluation of the employee’s performance of the above essential job functions.
